The Home Remodeling Process with Evola Builds
Whether it’s New Construction, an Addition, or Remodeling, there are a lot of steps involved, and we know it can be confusing and stressful to navigate through them. Our process aims to remove both the confusion and stress and replace it with clarity and confidence; providing our clients with the elevated experience they want and deserve.

This step is where we get acquainted to see if we are a good fit for one another. We accomplish this with our intake call, client questionnaire, and onsite meeting. Through this process, we will determine if your project and goals align well with the services we provide, our construction calendar, and any other factors that could impact our ability to craft an elevated experience for you. If we feel that we are not the right fit for your project we will let you know so you can move on in your selection process.
Once we have determined our suitability, it’s time to commit to one another. We do this under our Design and Development Agreement, or DDA. With this agreement, we commit to fully developing your project and you commit to participate in the process and paying a fee. Covered in your fee is a detailed cost of construction that assures you a quality, completed project at a fixed price (not an estimate) and a detailed DDA log that identifies all materials needed to complete your project. The DDA does not obligate you to enter into a Construction Agreement with us and you own the results of the design work covered by the DDA.
This is where the fun really begins! We will meet with you and discuss in detail every aspect of the design and finishes of your project. We may set up meetings at vendors to look at selection options, visit showrooms, or journey with you through your Pinterest boards! Wherever your source of creativity resides, we will partner with you, providing as much or as little guidance as you need. Some of our projects require the use of outside design resources, and if we determine that yours falls into this category, we can provide access to those that we have established relationships with.
With all or most of the DDA work in hand, we will meet with you to talk through the project. We will take all the time you need to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. We will go over the scope of work, project plan, progress payments, timelines, logistics and any questions you may have. You will meet your personal project manager and discuss how communications will be handled. Finally, we will sign a Construction Contract and collect the deposit, typically 20% of the total construction cost.
During the construction phase we will handle all of the details of ordering materials, scheduling, supervision, and coordination, keeping you up to date on all facets of your project through ongoing communication and daily reports that we send out either daily or weekly based on your preferences.
No matter how carefully we plan your project together, unanticipated conditions or changes you choose to make may cause the need for a change order. Although our goal is to avoid these if at all possible, we are prepared to accommodate any changes to the original contract through the use of our change order process. Rest assured that any changes that impact cost, time, or selections will be communicated with you prior to any action being taken so there are no surprises later.
As we near completion of your project, we will perform an internal punch list to ensure that your project meets our high level of craftmanship. Once completed, we will perform a final clean of your home and any areas where our construction activity existed. We will provide you with a Project Manual that includes all pertinent information about your project, including documentation on all materials, warranties, and contact information for service items. We will then review your project with you to ensure it meets your complete satisfaction. Next, we will contact you after you have enjoyed your home for a month to make sure there is nothing needing our attention, and again in 11 months post completion, prior to the expiration of our 1-year warranty.

Get a quote on your home remodeling project- Show AnswerWhat is a Design and Development Agreement? It is very difficult, if not impossible, to give you an accurate bid for a large job when there are no designs, plans, etc. -YET. A Design and Development Agreement, or a DDA will allow us to create those designs and plans and help you walk through the selection process for materials, fixtures, etc. It also helps us understand your vision for your project, as well as the level of fixtures and finishes you are wanting. We need them because they enable us to give you an actual cost to construct your project. DDAs are priced based on the size of the project. If you decide at the end of the DDA that you don’t want to move forward with the project, you still have all the designs and plans to use when you are ready.
- Show AnswerCan I continue to live in my home during the remodel?Remodeling can be dusty and noisy during construction. We do our best to minimize the effects and impacts the process has on you. If you are remodeling a single bathroom or kitchen, we can set up a temporary area for you to utilize during the work. If we are touching multiple areas in your home, we recommend vacating during construction. If you have no space where you can find peace and quiet, a remodel can get tiresome quickly! We also find that when a homeowner remains on site the project cost and duration increase, as we can’t be as efficient in occupied spaces.
- Show AnswerShould I get multiple bids and pick the lowest price? There are plenty of ways to cut corners to create a lower price. Competitive bidding rewards the lowest price and offers absolutely no advantage to good workmanship. We prefer to do things the best way. “Best” means, in our opinion, the most effective combination of price to performance – getting the most bang for your buck.
- Show AnswerHow will you finish up the project? We have a 3-step process where we will 1) walk through the project with you once we wrap up production and identify any items that need attention. 2) at around the 1-month mark we will contact you to inquire about anything we may have missed on the initial walk. 3) we will do the same process at 11 months just before the standard 1-year warranty for manufacturer warranty items is up.
- Show AnswerWhy should I hire a General Contractor, when as the homeowner I can act as my own contractor? It depends on the size of the project and your personal experience with construction, but many homeowners lack the experience necessary to act as a general contractor for their projects. We also offer a network of connections, so if we call in a Sub-Contractor (Trade Partner), you can rest assured that they are high quality and not just the only available guy. Being a General Contractor is a full-time job with a very high stress level. If you already have a day job, the level of time management required to be a General Contractor is just not available to you. Many homeowners mistakenly believe that being their own GC is going to save them time and money. You may start out with a project that is going to cost you less than hiring a GC, but it can quickly build. Your time is valuable as is your piece of mind. Why not save both and hire someone who can focus 100% on your project.
- Show AnswerCan I buy the materials and just have you install them? No. We need to be able to control the ordering process to ensure proper material style, size, hardware, and accessories are ordered. We also cannot offer you any warranty on materials we do not supply. It also helps us ensure materials are delivered on time and without damage.
- Show AnswerHow long is my remodel going to take?We are often asked how long a residential remodel will take. The answer to that varies depending on the size and complexity of the project. Typically, a whole home remodel which involves the kitchen, at least one bathroom, and other parts of the home takes a minimum of three (3) months from start to completion. At Evola Builds, before we start your project, your project manager will put together a schedule, providing a reliable timeline for the completion of your project.
- Show AnswerIf the contract is signed, when can you start? The first question we usually get from our clients after they sign the contract is “when can you start my project”? We are excited to start, and we know you are as well. There is a sizable amount of planning and organization so that we can successfully execute your project. A good rule of thumb would be six (6) to eight (8) weeks from signing the contract. However, this is largely dictated by the complexity of the project. Projects like decks require less time while a new addition or multi-space remodel could require more.
